Course Description:

This is a continuation of the Writing Skills (IEW) course for students who wish to perfect their written communication skills and advanced IEW techniques.  *Students must have completed the beginning IEW writing skills class in order to register for the intermediate level.

Students in grades 7-12 should come into IEW with knowledge of the 8 parts of speech and basic sentence structure. This is an intense, highly structured approach to writing and will require an average of 4-5 hours of homework each week. Classes will be taught through lecture and in-class activities, as well as weekly writing assignments.

 Supplies

 1-1/2″ three-ring binder, wide-ruled notebook paper, pens

Grading Information:

Grades are derrived 10% attendance, 10% attitude and participation, 80% homework assignments.  Beginning about week 4, every assignment will have a check list with the requirements for the assignment, point value for each required element, and total point value for the assignment.  As the course progresses, assignments become more complex and thus increase in point value.

Late work policy:   Homework is due when collected in class.  Homework that is up to one week late will be docked 10% of the value of the assignment.   Homework up to two weeks late will be docked an additional 5% and will only be accepted with a note of explanation from the parent, subject to verification.  No assignment will be accepted more that two weeks past the class period in which it was due.  Assignments will not be penalized for illness or vacation with a note from a parent.

Attendance:   A student who is tardy will lose 1/2 of the attendance credit for that day.
