Student supplies needed for this course:

  • Pad of drawing paper at least 19”x24”
  • Zippered plastic pencil case or similar container
  • #6 or #8 round watercolor brush (Winsor & Newton Series 136 brush recommended)
  • All other materials provided as needed

Grading information:

A percentage grade for the class is based on active, positive participation, and completion of the homework assignments. Each homework assignment carries three points – one for completion, one for workmanship, and one for being turned in on time. Late homework is always accepted; however, the point for being on time can only be awarded for homework received on the due date. No exceptions – plan ahead. The point for on time work is not extra credit; it is part of the total points available for the class.

Guidelines for success:

Class participation – this class is very hands on and requires the ability to work well with others

Class attendance – each week new subject matter is introduced so regular class attendance is strongly encouraged; many times successful completion of the homework assignment depends on a concept introduced in class that day, and due to the nature of the co-op situation, it is extremely difficult to go over the material outside of class for someone who misses a class

Written assignments – the course introduces the process of drawing, which cannot be mastered in one hour a week. It is essential that you provide time in your regular home schooling schedule for the student to complete the homework assignments.

Class assignment schedule:

Assignments are written out in a homework assignment book provided to the student the first week of class. There is an assignment every week.

Art show

There is a non-juried art show at the end of the second semester, allowing your child to show case his or her work. For this show, we request at least one drawing representing work in class, with a maximum of four drawings entered. Two of the four drawings may be non-HERO related work, and they must not have been previously displayed.
