Art (2-6)
Course Instructor: Sandra Stauner
Course Description:
Students will discover the “Joy of Art” as they are introduced to a variety of art and art activities. This art class, as part of an art, science, and writing rotation, is designed to introduce students to artists, art history, art making, and principles of art. There are three types of lessons offered in this class: “Discovering Great Artists”. The study of historical figures in art and styles or techniques that characterize the artists, “elements of art”, a group of lessons which will review art basics such as; color, line and texture, and also “Art Around the World”, which will present artistic techniques and styles that are particularly interesting or unique. These activities are designed to encourage development of artistic vision and creative expression. Discovering the excitement of paint, pastels, watercolors, clay and other mediums. My goal is for students to begin to recognize ways in which various works of art attempt to convey emotion or tell a story, and for them to understand the many ways artistic ideas can be expressed. I also want students to enjoy art that they create, with an emphasis on the process of making art rather than the final product.
